Emergency response charters

Emergencies abroad can take various shapes and sizes. From medical repatriation flights of injured holiday-goers to emergency response teams sent out to evacuate a disaster area, private air transport is the quickest travel option.

A medevac or air medical evacuation transports patients who’re too ill or weak to travel by regular air transport. These air ambulances often come with medical escorts and extensive equipment to provide medical assistance during the trip. Finally, private jets and air ambulances can operate to a much broader range of airports than commercial airlines, allowing for a greater choice of hospitals.

Jetters to the rescue

Last year during the Easter holidays, we received a request by someone who had sustained multiple fractures during a ski trip in Innsbruck. He was determined to get to a Belgian hospital asap. After we evaluated the available options, we were able to offer a Citation II that would’ve been ready to fly directly from Innsbruck to Kortrijk a few hours later.

However, our client was still waiting on the doctor to supply him with the required ‘fit to fly’ certificate, so we arranged for the private jet to pick him up the next day. We ensured there was medical personnel accompanying him on the trip and we’d organized medical transport to the airfield in Innsbruck and from Kortrijk airport straight to the hospital.

Quite often, there isn’t a whole lot of space on the aircraft as there will be a stretcher on board as well as medical equipment, but we managed to bring along his wife and child. Our client was very satisfied with the service and grateful that we’d gotten him to the hospital in Ghent in time for his surgery.

Transport of medical cargo

Medical cargo entails vital supplies like blood reserves or human donor organs.

Time is of the essence when transporting donor organs as they can’t remain outside of the human body for more than a few hours. Therefore, as soon as a request comes in, we’ll scour our contacts to find the best private transport and crew. While the viability of the organ is being assessed, we’ll have the aircraft refueled and crewed, ready to depart. When we get the call either for an immediate take off or a later time, we’ll keep everyone on standby at the departure airfield so we’re ready for every eventuality.

Private air transport is the quickest and most efficient way to provide life-saving medical support

Due to the time-sensitive nature of organ transfers, these types of flights have some unique characteristics:

  • Depending on the organ, a medical team may need to come along to assess its viability upon arrival at the destination airfield

  • There need to be hospitals in the immediate vicinity of the arrival airfield

  • Airports (e.g. in Germany) that normally close at night, will remain open for organ transfer flights

  • Organ transfer flights receive priority: there will be no departure slot and en-route air traffic controllers will expedite the flight as much as possible

At Jetters, we have reliable contacts that’ll provide you with private air transport and a flight crew ready to depart at a moment’s notice. The assessment of a donor organ usually happens at night, but we work around the clock to follow up and assist where needed so that the operation will take place as smoothly and expeditiously as possible. To this end, effective communication with the transplant coordinator is of the utmost importance.

For organ donor flights, effective communication with the transplant coordinator is of the utmost importance.
